The Mind in the Dark

Go into the dark without a scheme.
There is no need to work it out beforehand.
Unimaginable, isn't it?

Dares like this one bring up fear.
We can't stand not knowing yet, it is the nature of the dark.
It is unknown. This spiritual path is an uncertain path.
As is our lives.

We want a beginning, a middle and an end.
Otherwise we feel uneasy, as though things don't fit together.
We want things to fit together. We want things to fit together
in a world where things are falling apart.
Imagine that!

We feel as though we will fly into pieces.
Worst of all, we feel listless. The dark seems melancholic.
The apathy comes from our wanting the dark to be other than
it is. It's when we feel as though we must know or we'll die.
We resort to inventions. We begin to make things up.

We believe we need a plan. We need to stay busy,
be useful, achieve and show some accomplishment.
Our emotions flood us with a sense of dread, a sense of how
small we are and how short our life is. We want something else.

This place, this dark place is a struggle worth our life.
It asks us to do the unimaginable.
Don't run. Build capacity to see in the dark.
