Seeing in the Dark
Perpetually, the sense of getting ready is present. In the middle of the dark woods, the water waves and runs and disappears against the shore. It leaves stones and bits of wood; it wets the coast and lifts away some sand. The sun light appears and leaves the darkened shadows and falls away to leave the night.
Slack attention and the mind follows a course not plotted leaving traces. Surrender seems most sensible and steady. It drops away the wishes and rides between the wetness and the sun. It brings no container to the edge and does not anchor in the sky.
No idols built or stones piled up it bows to the swimming birds and prays for the eyeless fish thrown along the rim of the ocean lake. It listens to the songs of water sirens and watches the paint of pink with the sun's arrival.
Inner agony and anguish accompany self desires that tend to enter this wood along this shore. Surrender the self desires and be on the watch for the return of such trespassers.
