Our Roots in the Dark

When we look at the trees their roots are hidden.
They stand and stretch on those early roots.
The roots give constant support all the way out to the limbs.
They soak in the ground water from the beginning.

We stand on our roots and often forget them.
We can run away from them and hide.
Our roots were trusty and unwavering bearers of our weight.
They brace us for what is to come.

There is gold in the root dirt.
It's old wisdom.
It's able to be hammered without cracking.
And everyone knows even a little is a thing of great worth.

Go, sit on the ground.
Dig into the dirt and find the roots that feed.
They tell the true story.
It's not easy this wisdom.
But draw on it.
Be kind. Touch it carefully. Don't cut any of them.
They go all the way out on a limb.
